Had the blessing to visit Maui in January. Talk about inspiration for art quilts. I took a lot of pictures of flowers and waves.  One of the fun activities I was able to do is visit a great fabric store, Sew Special in Kahului. I was quite impressed with the amount of bolts this store has.

First off of course I noticed the batiks. Largest selection of batiks I’ve seen in one shop in a long time.  The selection of ocean/ Hawaiian batiks and other prints was something I’d never seen. I had to buy some, even white on white with plumeria flowers.

Have you seen the new digitized fabrics that are on the market now?  They are popping up everywhere and I haven’t found one that I didn’t like.  THey had several of them in oceanic prints. I couldn’t. Resist this ocean fabric by ???

Their patterns consisted of a lot of Asian Shashiko patterns and Hawaiian quilt blocks. They even had some fancy yarns and a wall of notions.  The owners are a cute couple. He fixes the machines and helps out with cutting but that is the extent of his knowledge. She was very welcoming and friendly. What a great lady. She was very knowledgeable and interested in my new business. She ended up giving me 10% off my total and a free fat quarter with Hula girls on it.

I will definitely be going back there when in Hawaii again.  Have you been to a great fabric shop on vacation that I need to know about?
